The events delineated in these pages take place in a world that superficially resembles London of the mid-19th century. The astute visitor however will quickly realize that our England of this period, while graced with Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace, had neither Difference Engines nor Salamander people. \u00a0There follows a rational explanation: \"\" 2dgoggles takes place in a Pocket Universe where its dangerously unpredictable currents cannot disturb the entirely rational ordered universe that we are so fortunate to inhabit.<\/p>\n

The Pocket Universe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We are still studying the Laws of Nature that govern the operations of the Pocket Universe but some patterns are emerging. In our own universe Moore’s Law<\/a> states that computers double in processing power approximately every two years. In the P.U. this is governed instead by:<\/p>\n

BRUNEL’S LAW<\/h3>\n

The Computer (there is only one) doubles in size<\/em> approximately every two years. I am informed that this would make the Difference Engine in the equivalent of our present day larger than sun. HOWEVER there is a natural constraint upon this progression which is:<\/p>\n

CIRCULAR TIME<\/h3>\n

The pocket universe is a self-contained body of time the currents of which operate in a circular fashion. This may be expressed as, “The more things change, the more they stay the same” or, as Δ\u00a0increases, Δ decreases. I believe this makes 1=0 in the PU which explains why Babbage avoided the use of binary in the Difference Engine.* In this decimal system, following on ‘9’ either resets to ‘1’ or it goes up to ’11’, or, normally, both happen simultaneously.<\/p>\n

The circularity of PU time is chaotic in nature and makes for great unpredictability in the ordering of events. Thus we see the same law explain such disparate phenomena as: an adult Ada Lovelace being able to interrupt 26-year-old Samuel Coleridge; the fact that there exists a Part 11 of an 8-part series; and the irregular and erratic nature of updates to comic.<\/p>\n

GRAND UNIFIED THEORY OF ENTERTAINMENT<\/h3>\n

The fundamental law of the PU is:<\/p>\n

-where ‘E’ represents \u2018Entertainment Value\u2019. Let us take as an example Lovelace\u2019s husband, Lord Lovelace. After exhaustive investigations I have determined that his Entertainment Value or E is precisely zero. Hence, according to the above equation, either his mass, or the speed of light, must therefore also be zero, and if the speed of light was zero then you wouldn\u2019t be able to see the comic.<\/p>\n

On the other extreme Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace are so entertaining it is hardly surprising they are the massiest objects in the Pocket Universe.<\/p>\n
