I can\u2019t help but feel I\u2019m mightily outclassed by every other month (Simon Singh!\u00a0 Aleks Krotoski! Brian Cox! ), but luckily no one does anything in August anyways so no one has to look at their calendars that much that month.\u00a0\u00a0 Amazingly they managed to find one picture where I look a little bit like a normal person, because I saw some of the discards and I look like this:<\/p>\n SO many thanks to the lovely folks from Geek Calendar, sorry I flinched away from the camera like a cat from a spray-bottle!\u00a0 The photos in the Calendar look absolutely stunning and it\u2019s all in a good cause, so pick one up from their website<\/a>!<\/p>\n THREE AND VERY THRILLING INDEED!<\/p>\n (and also I want everyone to stop emailing me about it because I have just got to the fabled Inbox Zero and want to admire it for a while)<\/small><\/p>\n There is a momentous project underway\u2014 hang on, let me find a big enough font\u2014<\/p>\n TO BUILD AN ANALYTICAL ENGINE!!-<\/span><\/p>\n John Graham-Cumming<\/a>, of the splendid Turing Apology Campaign<\/a>, is masterminding this scheme and you can read all about it on the website<\/a> or on Oreilly.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n This is plainly in a desperate attempt to save 20 bucks and win the coveted \u201cBuild a working Analytical Engine, Win a 2DGoggles TShirt!\u201d prize, but as STEP ONE this project aims to finally digitize Babbage\u2019s papers\u2014 something I\u2019m sure we can agree ought to be done without delay.\u00a0 Who knows what gags might lurk in there!\u00a0\u00a0 Actually this just goes to show you the power of Thinking Big because I had on my todo list \u2018start campaign to digitize Babbage papers\u2019, and not only did it get buried between \u2018sew missing buttons on winter coat\u2019 and \u2018make some goals or something\u2019, but also somehow I doubt it would have made the BBC!<\/a><\/p>\n I certainly hope the readers of this comic can muster a respectable display of support for this noble proposition, so get on over and pledge!<\/a> Ten dollars, pounds, or euros is the going rate and I’m sure it’s plenty worth it for the chance of seeing something like this!<\/p>\n And finally\u2014 if you\u2019ve recovered from that excitement\u2014\u00a0 in addition to cramming in some work on Organist Pt 8, I\u2019ve done a new wallpaper for Tor.com\u2019s upcoming steampunk fortnight!<\/a> You\u2019ll be able to get it from their website and I\u2019ll alert you when it\u2019s up, in the meantime..
